The Philosophical Society (the Phil) is one of the world's oldest student societies, boasting thousands of members all drawn to its jam-packed event schedule of debates, guest speakers and social events. Originally founded as a paper-reading and debating society, the Phil is the place to discuss current issues with fellow students and world leaders. It meets every Thursday to debate topical motions - from sex work, to environmentalism, to global affairs with guest speakers from all walks of life. The Phil is best known for providing its members with a chance to meet incredible guest speakers such as Martin Scorsese, Angela Merkel, Joe Biden, Al Pacino, Whoopi Goldberg and Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
