The Central Societies Committee is working towards being more environmentally sustainable. We encourage and support all society activity, big or small, to be more conscious of environmental factors and strive for sustainability.
In 2019 the Central Societies Committee proudly celebrates it’s 50th year supporting societies in TCD. To mark this occasion the CSC is turning over a new leaf, working towards being more environmentally conscious in its actions. Beginning with Freshers Week, we hope each society and TCD student will join us in making Freshers Week 2019 greener and more sustainable event.
If you have any suggestions on how we can achieve a higher standard with regards to the Societies Go Green initiative we would love to hear from you. firstname.lastname@example.org
What Can Societies Do?
One of the main things that societies can do is reduce production of physical materials. Here’s how you can help.
Membership cards: Each year on average 43,500 plastic/paper cards are printed for Freshers Week sign up. This year we are introducing digital membership cards, which will cut down on waste, as well as make it easier for students to keep on the phone/email. No SmartPhone? No problem, you can still join up and the membership information will be emailed to you by the society.
Go Digital! Think about publishing your event information online, through members emails, Facebook or Instagram!
Like flyers, think about putting your publications online, through ISSUU or other services. Grehan Print use environmentally friendly printers. All their paper is from FSC certified paper as standard but they also offer 100% recycled stock too. They recycle all paper off cuts as well as their litho plates. The litho plates are developed without the use of chemicals and their litho inks are based from vegetable oil). They have agreed to offer a discount to TCD Societies for publications, posters, pop-ups etc this year. Email email@example.com and use the code TRINITY19/20 to discuss a discount.
Tito is offering credit for 50 Euro to all societies to get started! Online ticketing is a great way to cut down on waste, and make it easier to manage your events. See here for more info.
The T-Shirt Company are offering a 10% discount for TCD societies, and produce t-shirts made of organic/recycled materials. firstname.lastname@example.org
What can societies do together to help Go Green?
There is a great community of societies in TCD. If you need equipment or items for an event, why not ask around and see if you can borrow them?
